Become a trainee crew member on board Tall Ship Maybe, sailing with young people from across the UK. Learn about teamwork, leadership whilst learning skills in sailing a traditional tall ship. There will plenty of opportunities to visit some secluded and isolated towns and bays, maybe have a bonfire on the beach or cool off in the fresh North Sea. Whatever happens on this trip, you will make new friends, learn new skills and make memories that will last forever. On the top of that this voyage qualifies for Gold Duke of Edinburgh Residential.

Tall Ships Race Delivery Voyage - Inverness - Sunderland

Join Maybe Sailing on board Tall Ship Maybe for an amazing nautical adventure. You will become the crew of Tall Ship Maybe, involved in every aspect of sailing a classic Tall Ship; without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t move! You will be involved in hoisting sails, ropework, steering, keeping watch, cooking in the galley and general duties on board.
You will be sharing this voyage with 12 other young people from across the UK. You will learn skills in team work, communication and leadership and make new friends, building confidence and having fun.
Setting off from Inverness, we head out through the Moray Firth and down the East Coast of Scotland before crossing the border into England and arriving in Sunderland in time for the start of the Tall Ships Races. See amazing scenery. Spot amazing wildlife, maybe even a Whale or two! But, most importantly, have a fantastic adventure which you will share with new friends and will be etched in your memory forever.

How to get to Inverness
By Air
Just 20 minutes drive from the centre of Inverness, Inverness Airport has good links to England, including regular flights to London Gatwick and Luton with easyJet, and to London Heathrow with BA. You can also fly into Inverness with FlyBe from the international hub of Amsterdam Schipol, and there are regular flights from Dublin and Belfast with FlyBe.

By Rail
Our favourite way of travelling to the Highlands (and environmentally friendly too!) – have a look at The Trainline for details of tickets. • From Edinburgh – travelling from Edinburgh to Inverness takes around 3 1/2 hours and trains depart (from Edinburgh Waverley or Haymarket) approximately every 1 – 2 hours.
If you book in advance you can get a return ticket for around £22 return but, if you purchase a few days before, or on the departure date, prices increase to around £50 – £80 return. This applies to most routes in Scotland so it is definitely worth booking in advance! • From Glasgow – travelling from Glasgow to Inverness also takes around 3 1/2 hours and trains depart from Glasgow Queen St approximately every 1 – 2 hours. As stated above, if you book your ticket in advance you are much more likely to secure a good price, with this route also starting from around £22 return. • From London – The Caledonian Sleeper offers overnight rail travel from London – go to sleep in England and wake up in the Highlands! The Caledonian Sleeper leaves London at 2115 daily (2030 on a Sunday) and arrives in Inverness at 0830 the next morning. For those who want a ‘flying trip’ to the Highlands we can collect you from the train station, take you out for a private tour then drop you off back at the station to get the sleeper back to London at 2015 (alternatively, you could stop off in Edinburgh or Glasgow for the evening).
By Bus
This is the most cost effective way of travelling to Inverness, but will generally take longer than train or plane, and the standard of the service can vary greatly. Megabus is a budget operator which offers some from great deals from London (14 hours – single tickets can be purchased for just £13), Edinburgh (3.5 – 4.5 hours) and Glasgow (3.5 – 4.5 hours). Also available on the Megabus website are tickets to travel with City Link Gold which is a premium coach service available on specific routes. Another option when travelling from England is the National Express coach service.

How to get to Sunderland
Sunderland is situated on the North East coast and is connected to the rest of the UK by excellent road and rail links. It is accessible from the A1(M), the main north-south road link from London and Scotland. Sunderland is a compact city and once you arrive you can travel hassle-free by jumping on one of the the local buses or a Tyne and Wear Metro to get around the city centre, the coast and further afield to Washington and Houghton-le-Spring. Sunderland also has a network of scenic cycle routes and public footpaths that are just waiting to be explored!

Travelling to Sunderland only takes 3 hours from London Kings Cross on direct trains, which also stop at stations including Hartlepool, Eaglescliffe, Darlington, Northallerton, Thirsk, York and Peterborough.

Sunderland is also accessible by major airlines through Newcastle International and Durham Tees Valley airports. It takes approximately 59 minutes on the local metro services from Newcastle International to Sunderland.

By Sea
DFDS Seaways operate daily crossings from Ijmuiden in Holland. The International Passenger Terminal at North Shields is only 12 miles from Sunderland and takes about 25 minutes in the car or approximately 1 hour by public transport.
By Coach Bus
Park Lane Interchange is the main bus station in the the city centre where coaches pick up and drop off. When you arrive
you can access local buses or metro services to get around.
