With bespoke voyages for your school and students, planning visits and a personal service, Maybe Sailing can create amazing opportunities for your school and your students.
With the interconnected and interdependent nature of our world, the global is not ‘out there’; it is part of our everyday lives, as we are linked to others on every continent in so many different ways.
Global citizenship nurtures personal respect for others, wherever they live. It encourages individuals to think deeply and critically about what is equitable and just, and what will minimise harm to our planet. Global citizenship helps learners grow more confident in standing up for their beliefs, and more skilled in evaluating the ethics and impact of their decisions. The Ocean Adventure Academy will encourage young people to become more aware of the wider world and have a sense of their own role as a global citizen. They will gain an understanding of how the world works, begin to take responsibility for their actions and become more flexible, creative and proactive.
The Ocean Adventure Academy will support young people in decision making, problem solving, effective communication skills and teamwork. These are skills and attributes that are increasingly recognised as being essential to succeed in other areas of life, including many workplaces. These are skills and qualities that cannot be developed without the use of active learning methods through which students learn by doing and by collaborating with others.
To prepare for the trip, you will make a plan of action together with your teachers at school. On board you will have the opportunity for 3 – 4 hours of self-study per day to work independently on your self-study curriculum. There will also be qualified teachers on board to guide you and help you complete your studies.
In addition to 3-4 hours of self-study each day, there are also in-depth classes linked to life on board. For example, navigation, seamanship skills, marine conservation, meteorology, maritime history. These lessons are in line with the subjects that you would receive at school.
Your day will also involve a period of sail training. This is when you will work as a team to set the sails, steer the ship, complete maintenance and cleaning tasks to keep Blue Clipper in tip top condition and sailing to the best of her ability. You will develop your skills in communication, teamwork and leadership.
On longer voyages tests are carried out on board and we recommend that you bring 4 – 6 test papers with you in a sealed envelope. Tests are usually taken on a Saturday morning and happen under the supervision of the on-board teacher.
We have voyages throughout the year from short 5 day voyages, 12 day expeditions right up to 6 weeks on board. Each voyage has a different character. When you sail with The Ocean Adventure Academy, you will have amazing experiences; learn new skills; discover amazing places and learn how to live, communicate and adapt to ever changing circumstances. Blue Clipper will become your home, your classroom, your world!
