On a sailing voyage we never use the word itinerary, as skippers will always be aiming for the best sailing and shore landings for the forecast and most idyllic or sheltered anchors and ports. They are as keen as you to include some of the highlights describe, but you have to go with Mother Nature, not fight her. The description below is based on what we think might be possible, based on past trips, or experience, but nothing is guaranteed on a sailing voyage. If the following voyage description is not fulfilled for any reason, Maybe Sailing and Maybe Sailing Youth Initiative cannot be held responsible.
Our youth voyages are aimed at young people between the ages of 15 and 25. We have scheduled our youth voyages to coincide with the school and university holidays in the UK and Ireland for maximum convenience and to make them accessible to as many young people as possible.
Under the watchful eyes of our fully trained permanent crew you will become a trainee crew member on board Tall Ship Leila, sailing with like-minded young people. Learn about teamwork, leadership whilst learning skills in sailing a traditional tall ship. Help hoist the sails, steer the ship and navigate the seas! See amazing scenery. Spot amazing wildlife. You don’t need any experience at all as you will learn everything you need to know on board.
You will gain knowledge of sailing, learn to live and work alongside others, gain knowledge in marine conservation and the part you have to play in the conservation of our oceans.
But, most importantly, you will have a fantastic adventure which you will share with new friends and will be etched in your memory forever.
This voyage qualifies for Duke of Edinburgh Gold Residential and Gaisce Gold Award.
